Mother, boyfriend charged in death of toddler burned in oven

Both are being held on bonds of $36,000 each, according to ABC13. The oven had apparently been turned on “all the way”.

J’zyra died of severe burns, despite Thompson desperately trying to resuscitate her. According to court records filed on Monday by the prosecutor’s office, Thompson says she had only left the children alone for “about thirty minutes”, while she picked up Malone from work.

A Texas mother and her boyfriend are behind bars after police say the woman’s toddler was baked to death inside an oven after being left home alone with her older siblings. ABC’s Houston affiliate reports that the children, whose names have not been released, later told Child Protective Services that they could hear J’zyra kicking in the oven, but they could not dare bring her out.

The couple reportedly found the three other siblings crying and pointing to the kitchen, where the oven had tipped over and the oven’s door was face down with J’zyra inside. Tilley added the couple had been bragging about not being charged with anything: “They were saying that it wasn’t their fault and that they’re gonna get away with it, and they weren’t there and this and that”.

Officials say Thompson left her kids alone in their northeast Houston apartment while she went out with Malone for pizza for about two hours.

A COUPLE has been charged over the death of a 19-month-old girl who was burned alive in an oven.

Authorities said no suitable relatives were found after the tragedy to look after the children and they have since been placed in foster care.

There were four kids in the house – a five-year-old girl, a three-year-old boy, another three-year-old girl and a 19 month old baby girl, named J’zyra Thompson. It was not an altogether unusual sight for them to see the children playing alone, they said. Local station Click2 Houston has learned from neighbors that Thompson regularly left the children home by themselves.

The father of the children, Frederick Price III, is also seeking custody of the other children.

According to court documents, Thompson is now 8 months pregnant.
