Mother charged in death of abandoned newborn
Eastwood Ave.in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood where police say a 19-year-old woman threw her baby out the window after giving birth.
The mother of the infant girl abandoned outside a Chicago high-rise Wednesday night has been charged with murder, police said.
Shocking discovery: A man visiting his girlfriend was shocked to see the child in the middle of a fall storm outside of the 800 block of West Eastwood Avenue (pictured).
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said on Thursday that the baby died of multiple blunt force injuries and that the case is considered a homicide.
Someone passing by found the infant and she was taken to Weiss Memorial Hospital about a block away where doctors reportedly worked on the infant for a few time before she died. Police were checking to see if a camera at a nearby school might have recorded any pertinent activity.

It was initially thought she had been beaten to death. IL safe haven laws allows the parents of unharmed newborns up to 30 days old to hand them over to staff at hospitals, police stations and other designated safe haven sites with no questions asked and without fear of prosecution.
