Mother Mistakes Daughter as Intruder, Shoots Her
A Florida woman killed her 27-year-old daughter after mistaking her for an intruder, officials in St. Cloud said on Wednesday. The couple attempted CPR and the mother can be heard saying to her daughter, “I love you”.
Detectives are investigating the shooting, which left the 27-year-old woman dead, but say so far evidence matches up with the mother’s version of events, Washington Post reports.
Police said the daughter was taken to Osceola Regional Hospital, where she died.
She told police she heard the person quickly approaching her, so she fired a single shot.
The identities of the daughter and the homeowner have not been released, pending next-of-kin notification.
Police said the woman was also taken to the hospital for treatment. The Associated Press isn’t naming the family members because of the husband’s past work as an undercover narcotics officer, as well as the fact that no criminal charges have been filed.
“At this time, the incident appears to be an accidental shooting”, a statement from police said.
State law affords privacy protections to Florida law enforcement officers, including not disclosing their home addresses.
