Mother of ‘Affluenza’ Teen Appears in Texas Court
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) – A “woman with means” who was arrested at a Mexican beach resort city with her fugitive teenage son who invoked “affluenza” as a defense after killing four people in a drunken-driving wreck has complained about the conditions of her Texas jail cell, a sheriff said Friday.
A Texas mother charged with helping her teen son escape to Mexico to avoid a probation violation appeared Friday in court, where a judge said he would consider her request to significantly cut her $1 million bail.
Another hearing will take place Monday regarding to Couch’s bail, which has been set to $1 million.
Tonya Couch’s attorneys have said she is “eager to have her day in court”. We have also never seen or heard of a sheriff taking the additional unprecedented step that he took earlier today of interrogating her while in custody at court today (surrounded by four deputies) and while clearly represented by counsel, but without her counsel present! It seems that Tonya Couch objects to the lighting and says she is having a hard time sleeping in jail.
7, 2016 photo provided by the Tarrant County, Texas jail, shows Tonya Couch. She was booked into Tarrant County Jail Thursday afternoon. The judge asked that she surrender her passport, but she said her temporary passport was seized in Mexico, so she does not now have one in her possession.
A judge ordered her returned to Texas during a hearing Tuesday in Los Angeles. “Her son, Ethan Couch, remains in custody in Mexico”.
The mother of a Texas teenager, ridiculed for his “affluenza” defence in the killing of four people while he was driving drunk, did not enter a plea at her arraignment in a Fort Worth court.
While in Mexico, the spoiled rotten “affluenza” teen spent more than $2,000 on hookers and booze at a Mexican club, but when his money ran out, he offered up a Rolex watch as collateral. Previously, Breitbart Texas reported that Couch’s legal counsel released a statement insisting Couch broke no laws in Texas.
However, the club was closed December 24 and December 25. They were found in Puerto Vallarta in between Christmas and New Year’s.
