Mother Says 2 Oklahoma Boys Severely Sunburned On Daycare Trip
Broadway says the heat index was 118 degrees that day, and that the burns began to blister the following morning.
Officer Bobby Floyd told Buzzfeed, ‘We’re looking at videos from the courthouse to see how long kids were left outside, and exhausting all resources to see what happened and hopefully get justice for these boys.’.
These images, which were posted by Shaunna’s aunt Amanda, have since been shared nearly 2,000 times by outraged friends and parents.
‘When I asked them about it, they claimed they were out of sunscreen and that they told the kids to put on their shirts, but they didn’t want to leave them on, ‘ she told News on 6.
Broadway says her boys – 7-year-old Conner Harvey and 5-year-old Tray Wells – were sent home from two different hospitals with pain medication and cream, but neither provided her sons with relief.
The employees told Broadway that they had run out of sunscreen. The boys’ skin peeled and developed large boils and blisters on his back and shoulders.
‘The white stuff is Silvadene cream, ‘ Shaunna explained.
On the campaign page, Jerry Broadway elaborated that on Friday when the boys were at the water park, temperatures reached close to 110 degrees.
“No child should have to endure this pain, especially due to the negligence of their caretakers”.
“No mother should have to watch her children suffer so much”, the family said. “We want to make sure that her entire focus is on her boys”.
‘Apparently the swelling and pain on his back was so bad that he was having pressure on his chest, ‘ she told Buzzfeed. KOTV also reports Happiness Is A Learning Center has been investigated 19 times by DHS in the past year but for minor issues.
“Right’s right, and wrong’s wrong, and there’s no excuse for this”, the mother added. I work Monday through Friday, and they have to go to daycare.’. “I don’t have the luxury to just have somebody that I can just have watch them outside daycare”.
Local police say that whilst they have confirmed that no other children were burned on the day, they are investigating the criminal element of neglect with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. The daycare manager had no comment when questioned by reporters.
According to KOTV, Shaunna Broadway dropped her two sons, Conner, 7, and Tray, 5, off at Happiness Is A Learning Center daycare in Vinit last week.
According to KOTV, a police report was filed on Sunday about the incident.
