Mother Shoots Daughter Dead After Mistaking Her For An Intruder
A 27-year-old Florida woman was pronounced dead Wednesday morning, the victim of a shooting by her mother, who mistook her for an intruder.
— 12:20 p.m. Police in central Florida say a mother mistook her daughter for an intruder and shot her to death.
The woman told police she fired a single shot when she heard the footsteps approaching quickly. Roberts said her daughter – Ashley Doby – had been visiting from North Carolina and did not live in the home, The Orlando Sentinel reported.
The girl’s mother was convinced someone was breaking into the home, so she retrieved a gun and fired, hitting her daughter.
“The homeowner’s story is consistent with the physical evidence and the witness’ statement”, authorities said.
“At this time, the incident appears to be an accidental shooting”, police said in a news release.
Roberts would not say which household member was part of law enforcement or specify the agency.

After the St. Cloud Police Department finishes their investigation, the case will be turned over to the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office, who will then decide whether or not to press any criminal charges against Sherry Campbell.
The officer, is on administrative leave but is not under investigation, the department said.
The woman who died is the stepdaughter of the St. Cloud Police Department officer, policetold WRDQ-TV. “I’ve been here for 14 years, and nothing like this has ever happened”.
St. Cloud is located in central Florida, about 35 minutes from Orlando.
