Motherwell confirm Mark McGhee as new manager
MARK McGhee will be confirmed as Motherwell’s new manager at Fir Park press conference tonight.
During his moment in time at Fir Park he was in fact short-listed for the Scotland manager’s blog post, reducing goal is to George Burley.
“There were those that were encouraged and those that were excited to have me as their manager, and it’ll be no different now”.
“Those who aren’t up for it, then that will change”.
“At the time I saw me leaving here as a positive for Motherwell Football Club at a time when there were financial problems”. It was around about Guy Fawkes’ and I thought that was just great. There has been progress and I think we deserve to be judged by results.
“I don’t expect anything I did then to count for anything now, other than giving me an opportunity”.
‘We are all waiting to hear how that is going to fall.
“I was really keen to get back into club management, but the destination was important. There is a real drive and determination to achieve our aims and objectives, and I want to help by putting an attractive, winning team on the pitch”. And I still get thanks from (ex-Motherwell owner) John Boyle for that. I’ve had several things put to me over the last few years, but it was important I returned at a club that was close to my heart and was a real challenge. He will make his own decision but I hope he continues.
The Barbados-based billionaire savaged the Motherwell players for their attitude following the sacking of Ian Baraclough, saying that ‘they should hang their heads in shame’.
McGhee is content to allow the players he’s inherited to start with a clean slate but warned them that a failure to apply themselves properly will see them swiftly moved on.
He said: “What their attitude has been is history. It’s what their attitude is from now”, McGhee said.
