Motorcycling-Marquez on pole for German Grand Prix
Marc Marquez set himself up for a 6th successive win at the Sachsenring as he posted the fastest time in qualifying for tomorrow’s German MotoGP.
In third position and rounding out the front row of the grid for Sunday’s race is Jorge Lorenzo, with his Movistar Yamaha teammate and championship point’s leader Valentino Rossi sixth behind Andrea Iannone and Yonny Hernández, who rode incredibly in qualifying to earn a great spot on the grid.
Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa briefly moved ahead but Marquez responded with a 1m20.336s, almost three tenths quicker than Pedrosa, to seal a sixth consecutive pole at the Sachsenring across all classes.
“We will try for six wins”, he said after securing pole with a track record qualifying lap of one minute 20.336 seconds. “I’m happy with the work we did but [the race] is the most important”.
“Apart from that, I’m on the second row and that’s not so far behind and my pace is quite good”. “The most important thing is the confidence with the bike is really high”.
Repsol Honda rider Marquez went fastest in all four practice sessions across Friday and Saturday and replicated that in Q2, setting a new lap record.
“In this circuit I always get good results but this weekend I feel good and I’m constant”.
“I did my best and I didn’t get even close to them”.
Rossi may be winless at the Sachsenring since 2009 – the last of his four wins in the race – but he finished fourth here past year and claimed a podium place with third in 2013.
