Motorcycling – Two Spanish riders killed in Laguna Seca crash
Salinas >> Two riders were killed Sunday in a crash just after the start of a World Superbike race at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. Both were taken to hospitals, where they later died.
Race Two – Chaz Davies’ second WorldSBK double and the first one for Ducati since Imola 2012.

Rea, who continued his remarkable run of finishing on the podium at every single race this year, said: ‘I tried a lot but there was nothing I could do to go through on Tom in race one. “They are in our thoughts and prayers”.
Bernat Martinez and Daniel Rivas Fernandez, both from Spain were injured in a multiple crash and succumbed to their injuries after being transported to hospital.
Moto Grand Prix world champion Marc Marquez also tweeted his sadness, saying, “very sad news, which has come from the United States of America”, offering his condolences and support to the victims and their families. Rea initially held second but we would never find out if he had the pace to keep Davies in sight after a mistake at turn four allowed Sykes through, a position Rea would have trouble regaining.
“I’m really, really happy with these results, and we’ve definitely seen the fruits of our labor here”.
The track was dry during the race, MotoAmerica spokesman Paul Carruthers said.
Behind Davies at the flag were Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea, the podium in race 2 being a carbon copy of the first encounter.
Although he had to settle for two thirds at Laguna Seca in California on Sunday behind his main rivals Chaz Davies and Kawasaki team mate Tom Sykes.
