Motorcyclist Burned in East Cobb Gas Station Fire
MARIETTA, Ga. (wsbtv)- A man was seriously injured Thursday morning when fire erupted at a Cobb County gas station.
The incident took place just after 8 a.m.at a Marietta Chevron station.
The motorcyclist had parked his Harley-Davidson at the gas pump and left it running as he went inside to pay for gas at the corner of Shallowford and Trickum roads, according to Lt. Dan Dupree with Cobb Fire.
Dupree told Patch that another person was burned on the hand trying to put out the fire.
The motorcyclist was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Investigators said they believe the man was fueling his motorcycle while it was running. Had he fallen down in that or spent much more time in there… he didn’t appear to have any burns to his airway or face.
A Georgia motorcyclist was severely burned while pumping fuel after his fuel tank overflowed & ignited Thurs., fire officers stated. “But, in my opinion, those two saved his life today”, said Cobb County Battalion Chief David Blount.
The gas pump was slightly damaged but did not explode.
