Mourinho Backs Pogba To Star At United For The Next Ten Years
Manchester United’s record signing Paul Pogba says it felt like coming home, when arriving back at the club from Juventus four years after leaving.
But surely none would have predicted that an 18-year-old by the name of Paul Pogba would go on to become the most expensive player in the world. The British media had put it at £89m (€105m), not including agent’s fees.
The 23-year-old, who left United for £1.5m in 2012, is returns for a fee that surpasses Gareth Bale’s £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013.
The Red Devils, somewhat bewilderingly, announced the deal in the early hours of Tuesday morning but given how every man and his dog knew a deal would eventually be struck, a low-key unveiling was perhaps fitting.
Instead, United released a statement on their website and then published an interview Pogba had given to MUTV.
“I feel this. I spoke with him a few times and he gave me energy and positivity”. I just came back to Carrington.
“I started here and I came back to finish the job”.
Pogba paid tribute to his team-mates and fans at Juventus, where he won four successive Serie A titles and reached a Champions League final, establishing himself as one of the world’s best players.
Despite the record price tag, Graeme Souness – victor of five league titles with Liverpool – believes Ibrahimovic will steal the headlines at United in 2016-17.
“The thing with me is I only think about the pitch”. Or that Lionel Messi’s failure to win on the global stage means he isn’t one of the best football players of all time.
Mourinho will be hoping that Pogba can slot straight into his team ahead of United’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth on Sunday. It has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am really looking forward to working with José Mourinho.
The Premier League has finally ended the trend of elite players moving to the two big Spanish clubs, Barcelona and Madrid, or German powerhouse Bayern Munich. That’s why. I am focused about this and that’s it.
“There’s no words, to be honest, there’s no words”, he said. I just went for a holiday, looks like I went for a holiday.
“I always had this United thing in my heart and that’s why I came back and I’m happy. It is just a great feeling to be honest”.
His transfer completed a highly intense “off-season” for Pogba. “I saw Warren Joyce, I remember the training we had with him, the changing room, the canteen where we eat”.
