Mourinho blames ‘ridiculous mistakes’ for defeat to Porto
Andre Andre gave Porto the lead six minutes before half-time when he volleyed home after Asmir Begovic parried Yacine Brahimi’s effort.
But if Chelsea are to do that, Mourinho believes his players need to show more consistency.
“I think it was a good performance with two ridiculous mistakes”.
Mourinho visited the museum prior to undertaking his media duties on the eve of the match. “We were punished”, he told reporters.
“For us it’s a ridiculous mistake”.
He went on to say: “We watch dozens and dozens of repetitions of Porto taking corners”, he said.
Chelsea will be hoping to record second consecutive Champions League victory when they visit Do Dragao Stadium to take on Porto on Tuesday.
Chelsea lost 2-1 away to Porto and now face a fight to qualify. Right now we have fantastic players but football is about today, not yesterday.
With two defeats already and the red-hot Bayern Munich still to play twice, Arsenal might have dug themselves into a hole they won’t recover from. Diego hit the post, (Branislav) Ivanovic had a chance one metre from goal, there was a last-minute situation, a clear penalty. “They’ve had the worst start to a season I can remember, it’s been awful”.
“We are third in this moment with three points and have another hard match against Dynamo Kiev coming up”.
“The second goal for us was a ridiculous mistake”.
It is not the first time Mourinho has returned to Porto, whom he guided to the 2003 UEFA Cup and the 2004 Champions League titles – he made an immediate Champions League return in the 2004/05 season with Chelsea – but he is honoured to feature in the Portuguese club’s museum. Poor defending, sloppy passes and an all-round lethargic look about the struggling stars were again the theme of another Chelsea loss. “Just a decision“. “When the team is not playing and winning matches on a regular basis, it’s normal that you have to make changes”.
Julen Lopetegui lauded his “amazing” Porto players following Tuesday’s hard-fought 2-1 Champions League win over Chelsea.
It also turned up the heat on Mourinho prior to the visit of Southampton on Saturday. Good feelings, happiness, self-esteem – players need that to play. “When everything goes against, it’s hard to have that feeling”.
Casillas has played eight times for his new club this season, and has kept three clean sheets. “No more questions about it”, he said. “Chelsea are conceding two goals in every game and it feels like Mourinho is now part of the problem”.
“Things changed when they scored, but we quickly equalised”.
