Mourinho delighted with contribution of goal hero Rashford
Former England captain Alan Shearer has encouraged Wayne Rooney to retire from worldwide football.
So instead of linking up with the likes of Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge with the seniors at St George’s Park today (Mon), Rashford will train with Jack Grealish, Dominic Solanke and Duncan Watmore with the juniors.
The win takes United up to second in the Premier League on nine points, level with Mourinho’s former club Chelsea.
“We did everything to win”, manager Mourinho told BT Sport after making it three victories in three league games this season. Can he help the [England] first team to win matches, like he is helping Man United?
“I don’t think we can be particular anymore”.
The hosts spend most of the match on the defensive but do create some threatening moments when Tom Huddlestone’s shot is deflected just wide inside the final 15 minutes. He has a muscle injury in his back and it is not good, ‘ said the Portuguese.
“Twenty-three players is more than enough and, if you have a problem or an opportunity, then I have a few young players in the Academy that I will be more than happy to give an acceleration in their process”.
“We’ve got a big squad and a lot of quality, and whichever players the manager wants to use will have to step in and do a job”.
It looked set to be a frustrating evening at the KCOM Stadium for Jose Mourinho’s side before substitute Rashford tapped home in the 92nd minute after fine work by Wayne Rooney. United’s other high-profile signing, Paul Pogba, also had a quiet game and was off target with two decent sightings of goal from the edge of the area.
It was definitely “Fergie Time” yesterday for Manchester United, as Marcus Rashford came off the bench to give the Red Devils some diversity in attack, and score the game winning goal.
Rashford will instead play for England under-21s this week to get some game time.
Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini was the real hero of his side’s clash with Hull.
“No (he isn’t better from the bench)”, Mourinho said.
“The team wasn’t playing with the intensity that we need and he was part of it”.
The 23-year-old spent the first half of last season on loan at Preston scoring two goals in 22 appearances before being recalled by Manchester United only to suffer a season-ending injury in the FA Cup win over Shrewsbury.
