Mourinho: Happy with Abramovich
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said he believed his players “were the best team” in their 1-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal at Wembley.
“It (the championship) is decided by details, and which team can maintain a good spirit, that level of focus which is vital throughout the season“. The likes of City, Manchester United and Liverpool spend heavily and they will look to push Chelsea all the way.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho said, “I don’t want to make a story of it. If you walk in the street you are not obliged to say hello or shake your hand with anyone“.
And Cech, who made nearly 500 appearances for Chelsea, will face the surreal task of playing against them for the first time in his career when his new club meets his old one at Wembley this weekend.
“Chelsea was outright winners last season, where the strength of their squad proved too hot to handle for the rest of the league”.
His team played without any sense of inferiority, which has not always been the case when these sides have met, and it should do Arsenal the power of good to break a run that has hurt Wenger far more than he would probably confess. “Whether they will, we’ll have to wait and see, but after the result yesterday, they’ll get a lot of belief and confidence out of that”. They do have one of the strongest squads and as long as the players stay fit, Arsenal will have a chance to win the league.
This meeting in the community shield was no different, as Jose Mourinho did not take his loss terribly well, hitting out at Arsene Wenger and Arsenal for “leaving their philosophy in the dressing room”.
“I am very happy because last season I had fantastic behaviour on the touchline”. Out of respect for my club, respect for football, I never refused a handshake with a manager in a football stadium.
After years of sniping, Wenger decided not to shake Mourinho’s hands at the end, perhaps reasoning that it is better to perform such a gesture after a victory. “That means there will be some hard questions for the manager to answer and for the team on how we can cope with the difficulties”, the German centre-back added.
Chelsea were without Diego Costa, and neither Loic Remy nor new signing Radamel Falcao gave many indications that they are ready to step into his shoes.
“I don’t think he will play for England again, and I don’t think Roy Hodgson will come with that proposal to him“.
“I do not know whether it is a turning point, but in any case it pleased the coach because we were rewarded for our efforts”.
