Mourinho has no regrets over bust-up with Chel
By publicly criticizing his medical staff and removing doctor Eva Carneiro from her match-day role, Mourinho has generated a new wave of damaging headlines for the club.
The Chelsea boss was angry that Carneiro and Fearn rushed onto the pitch in stoppage time of Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Swansea to treat Eden Hazard, meaning he had to leave the field as they had a free kick in a unsafe position in search of a last-ditch victor.
Jose Mourinho has finally broken his silence on the controversy surrounding his demotion of Chelsea physio Eva Carneiro, during a press conference in which he refused to take questions from the press, but instead offered a statement that was posted on Twitter by ESPN’s Miguel Delaney.
“They won’t be on the bench on Sunday”.
Mourinho has been strongly criticised over the reports and Wenger said it was unsafe for a manager to do anything that might damage unity within his club.
Speaking after the Swansea game, Mourinho said that Carneiro and Fearn had been “impulsive and naive” by going on to treat Hazard and said their behaviour showed that they did not “understand the game”.
The Premier League Doctors’ Group has expressed its concern over the ongoing situation and says a reduction in Carneiro’s role would be “unjust in the extreme”.
He added: “I want to say I have a fantastic medical department led by Dr Paco Biosca, with more than a dozen professionals between doctors and physics and masseurs and specialists in different areas”.
While remaining as first-team doctor, Carneiro will no longer be involved in matches and training sessions – a situation Fearn is also reported to find himself in. Carneiro has got a lot of attention over the last couple of years, most of it unwanted, and everyone knows Jose likes to be the centre of attention. It’s my decision.
“The bench is my responsibility”, he said.
Mourinho down played the importance of which members sit on the bench.
“I have seven assistants and only four can go on the bench, I have to choose three of them (to miss out)”. Medical, only two on the bench. “If you want to ask about other things, I’m not here”. “It’s important for some to be on the bench; for others it is more important their contribution, what they do behind the scenes, what they do for the team”. If somebody thinks that a disagreement between manager and medical can affect team, they don’t have a clue.
