Mourinho: My transfer window is over
Everton’s resolve to keep hold of their star players will be tested to the limit as Chelsea prepare a final £30m offer for John Stones.
“I don’t think [we will be involved on Transfer Deadline Day] but I will be enjoying your show!”
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claims the Blues are not looking to sign any new players before the close of the transfer window. I know it is open, I know my club can buy or sell, but I don’t like that feeling.
“As a football coach, thinking about my players, my squad and my coaching role, I don’t want to think about the transfer window”. I don’t like the transfer window when competition starts.’.
When asked on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning if the pursuit of Stones is dead, Mourinho said: “I repeat the same thing every season”. And with clubs knowing that they will need reinforcements, they will have no problem asking for an astronomical price for one of their own players.
Chelsea, who won the League Cup and Premier League last season, kick off their top-flight campaign with a home clash against Swansea City on Saturday afternoon. “I can not get that into my head”.
Former Manchester United captain and defender Rio Ferdinand recently claimed that Stones would be a “lunatic” to swap Goodison Park for Stamford Bridge, stating that he would experience far superior playing opportunities at Old Trafford.
“If you tell any young footballer to leave a club to sit on the bench, you’ve got to be a lunatic”.
Defenders Baba Rahman and John Stones are understood to be targets but Mourinho is keeping his focus on his side’s opening fixtures.
