Mourinho not coming to Manchester United
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal stormed out of a news conference after blaming the media for stories that he is on the brink of losing his job.
United’s home defeat by Norwich City last weekend, after which the Dutchman said he was “worried” about his position, was their third defeat in a row and they are without a win in six matches in all competitions.
It was clear the 64-year-old Van Gaal, who is halfway through his three-year contract, was in an angry mood from the moment he took his seat in the media room at the club’s training ground in Carrington.
“There is nothing”, Jorge Mendes was quoted as telling Globoesporte when asked about reports of Mourinho moving to United. “There isn’t an official proposal either”, British media quoted Mendes as telling Globo Esporte.
Chelsea’s sacking of Mourinho, 52 – who has been tipped as a possible replacement – has only intensified the pressure on Van Gaal.
Neville has been working as a coach at La Liga side Valencia since the start of this season and is now the number two to his brother Gary at the Mestalla, following the ex-Manchester United captain’s appointment as head coach earlier this month.
Louis van Gaal has received assurances about his future at Manchester United, including calls from the executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and insists he will keep his job.
Given the time that the current United boss has been in the game, Arsenal manger Wenger has stated that Van Gaal deserves a lot more respect than he is now getting.
The Blues host Watford in their next Premier League game at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
But is it all down to Van Gaal?
And while Wenger said he would welcome Guardiola in the Premier League, he said it was unfair for managers to announce in advance their future plans.
A run of three straight defeats, one of which condemned United to Europa League football, has left Van Gaal as short as 1/10 to become the next Premier League manager to leave.
The Dutchman may only have until the New Year, they play Stoke City on Boxing Day and host Chelsea on 28 December, to save his job, despite the board wanting to keep him.
Meanwhile, Wenger criticised Pep Guardiola for announcing his decision to leave Bayern Munich before the end of the season.
