Mourinho reveals Rashford practised free kicks ahead of semi-final
Ander Herrera has indicated that the season would be considered a failure if Manchester United don’t qualify for the Champions League.
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford netted a crucial away goal to give his side a 1-0 first-leg semifinal lead against Celta Vigo.
Celta had one of its best chances early in the game, a close-range header by midfielder Daniel Wass that missed wide in the 11th.
Louis van Gaal’s successor has won the EFL Cup and Community Shield in his first campaign at the Old Trafford helm, but Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Swansea leaves stuttering United fifth in the league.
“We had good chances in the first half that we didn’t finish”.
‘Honestly I think that we must find the right solution for all the teams when you prepare the fixtures for the end of the season.
He added on MUTV: “Of course, we are always confident”.
“It’s a great position but we have to keep in mind we have one more game to play, and play with the same attitude”.
His best stop came on 21 minutes when Rashford took aim from just outside the box and his shot was curling into the top corner only for Alvarez’s fingertips to turn the ball behind. They don’t know it, but when we’re on the field and hear them shouting our names, it pushes us to the limit. The United manager explained that the team have endured 10 games in the last four and a half weeks and he will need to rest them for the second leg of the European competition.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is out for the season after suffering a knee injury in the second leg of the previous round against Anderlecht.
“The crowd has to be as good as today, even with [the noise of] the Celta Vigo fans, we could hear them”. “Hopefully, if we get to the final, he can score again”.
“We have a lot of injuries. After that Mourinho has got a lot of experience and he just tells his players: “Game’s over, game’s finished, 1-0, we’re not gonna play anymore football tonight”.
“We have the players and the team and we want to do that”.
“He had a fantastic shot in the first half with that handsome save, and then the free kick is (a result of) work”, Mourinho said of Rashford’s performance.
