Mourinho Signs New Four-Year Deal
In a bid to defend the English Premier League title, Chelsea begin their new campaign at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as they welcome Swansea City.
Mourinho just signed a contract extension and he appears content in his second run with the club after winning another title last season. “Then I would be happy”. It’s nice to hear Mourinho hinting that the club are likely to continue that practice for the foreseeable future, as it makes far too much sense to continue with the club’s successful transfer policy.
Director of Swansea City Garry Monk: “We admitted nine against them (Chelsea) last year, which was not good enough at all, there were not many times I can say that I have devoured with the performance but it was one in the house one”. Now it’s my time, now it’s our time to give it back and to give my manager, to give my board, my club, a proper answer.’.
“Since his arrival two years ago he has carefully developed the playing squad and brought trophies to Stamford Bridge“.
Jose Mourinho says the fact that Chelsea didn’t sign any big-name players could come back to haunt them.
Those teething troubles, combined with the big spending of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool – as well as Arsenal’s impressive resurgence, have convinced Mourinho that Chelsea will be under severe pressure right from the start this year.
Following defeat by Arsenal in last Sunday’s Community Shield, Chelsea again looked rusty, having returned from a pre-season tour of North America where they travelled 9,800 miles.
Both John Terry and the Portuguese boss have already praised the former Porto star, who will be part of the starting eleven in Saturday’s opening match against Swansea, as Diego Costa still struggles with injuries.
It was an eventful match for Premier League champions Chelsea.
And Falcao is well aware of the dangers posed by clubs such as Swansea, who saw Chelsea account for 18 per cent of their total league goals conceded last season (nine out of 49). I think Mesut Ozil has to fix himself a target of at least 10 for a guy who plays behind the striker.
“We care, but the reality is the first match I don’t think has a outcome for the rest of the season”, a relaxed Mourinho told reporters on Friday.
