Mourinho: Some United individuals feeling the pressure
Manchester United lost their third consecutive game in all competitions following the 3-1 defeat against Watford in the Premier League today.
“Man United are a team that in the past years have won a lot”.
Rashford’s goal could not prevent United from suffering yet another defeat, after their first EPL loss of the season inflected by Manchester City and UEFA Europa League loss to Feyenoord.
Jose Mourinho says his players are having a hard time accepting defeat and moving forward after their early season struggles. We had that period where, in the stadium, everyone was thinking about Manchester United going on to score a goal and win the game. I just think in possession Man United were really, really poor. Some individuals feel the pressure too much.
“But from a collective point of view, I only have good things to say about them”.
United’s abject state was clear early in the game. Ighalo was presented with an open goal but rather than control the ball, he missed the target with De Gea watching in astonishment.
Watford keeper Heurelho Gomes denied Zlatan Ibrahimovic with a flying save but United always looked vulnerable and Zuniga scored from a cutback by Roberto Pereyra less than a minute after coming on.
Captain Wayne Rooney however has been criticised yet again for his performance and for some fans, this may be the final straw.
A key intervention by Miguel Britos created Watford’s goal.
Referee Michael Oliver did not bat an eyelid to the incident.
Southampton has 5 points from five Premier League games, while Swansea is a point behind. Martial eventually got to his feet but the France global still appeared groggy when he was made a fatal mistake in the 34th minute. The Frenchman couldn’t continue, hobbling off with Ashley Young taking his place.
Scholes, who retired from football for a second time in 2013, spent his entire career at United, mostly in central midfield. You don’t ask me about that if you think that nothing happened. “It looked past year like he was leaving, he’s not been involved a minute of the season, so what he’s done I don’t know”. It was Rashford’s 10th goal for United since making his debut in February, a team high. “Lady luck you don’t control and referees mistakes you don’t control”.
But that’s what happened, after Ibrahimovic’s header was kept out of the net by Gomes.
Zuniga, who was brought down for the hosts’ penalty, has yet to start for the club.
But further goals from Juan Camilo Zuniga and Troy Deeney, ensured United left with nothing.
