Mourinho tells Pogba to forget price tag
John Giles believes Jose Mourinho might be mistaken by how well he expects Paul Pogba to do for Manchester United.
Even as Manchester United have made a good start to the season, Pogba’s own performances have not quite been up to the standard already expected of the French global.
The France global was vibrant on his full debut against Southampton last month but Pogba now appears to be trying too hard to justify his world record £89million fee.
And the 36-year-old claims Pogba is impressed by his longevity. “It is normal after the first game he has a little decrease”. Has he been told to play where he wants? A Luke Modric or a Toni Kroos, and I think these players are available.
The Red Devils lost the game 1-0 and much criticism was vested on Pogba, who failed to have an influence on the game yet again, having arrived to Old Trafford for a world record fee from Juventus. “Just keep it simple for now, Paul, ease your way in”. “They didn’t buy a Lionel Messi to beat five players and then go and stick it in the top corner all the time”. But since his return to Manchester United, the Frenchman hasn’t shown a lot of quality in his performances. He’s got skill, he can pass it forward, he can run. “He’s got so much pace, so much power”.
Do Manchester United need another world-class midfielder?
Scholes believes playing alongside the calming presence of Michael Carrick could benefit Pogba.
He needs a controlling midfielder next to him and Michael has got that.
“He was too far back for me, he kept picking the ball up in the middle of defence”.
The French worldwide spent four successive years with Italian giants Juventus, winning back-to-back league titles while playing alongside midfield greats such as Andrea Pirlo as Scholes has warned that we have to “remember he came from a brilliant team at Juventus”.
“I think they still need that type of player”. I think it will come.
“I always feel that my job is that I am an extra source of motivation, but the motivation belongs to the players”.
