Move against Boehner a sign of discontent
For his part Meadows, a two-term lawmaker elected in the tea party-backed 2010 class, accused Boehner in his resolution of centralizing power, bypassing members of Congress and the public, punishing those who disagree with him and causing the power of Congress to atrophy.
Adding that Meadows’ resolution “doesn’t even deserve a vote” on the floor even if it proved that Boehner has support by his party.
“I haven’t raised money off of anything that has happened to me in this House”, he said.
Murkowski is trying to woo Democrats, partly through trade-offs in any legislation that would allow more states to share in the revenues from off-shore drilling.
“This is the stupidest political move that I have ever seen”.
Some members have called the motion a publicity stunt.
All this sounds quite serious, but the motion should be read through the prism of GOP politics as they stand right now.
Michigan Rep. Justin Amash, a longtime critic of Boehner’s, told reporters on Tuesday he was still reviewing the resolution.
He indicated Tuesday that he will not seek a vote before the recess – and he may not seek a vote after the recess, he said.
However, his latest challenge to GOP leadership has catapulted his name across headlines, showing a defiant side to the man often described as the “friendliest guy in the House”.
“It’s in the hopper”, Jill Shatzen-Kerr, the committee’s communications director said. (He got the position back after conservatives complained.). And there will be consequences to pay. Yet, Meadows said that he merely wants it to be the “impetus” for a “family discussion” about making sure everyone in Congress is being “treated fairly”.
The path to approval, though, is considered tougher in the Senate, where any measure would need at least 60 votes to advance. “He also cast one of just 34 Republican votes against a pivotal procedural move on trade”.
Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), the Republican who proposed the resolution, is also a founding member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. The motion was filed by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.).
He was born in Verdun, France, in a U.S. Army Hospital where his father was stationed during the Vietnam War. His mother worked as a civilian nurse.
He grew up in Tampa Bay, Florida, describing himself as a “fat nerd” during his early years. He decided to lose weight through exercise after being rejected for a date. All of which is nonsense, of course. “My feeling is that the American people want a different leadership because this leadership has proven that they can not work with the members”, Jones said.
Not everyone on Capitol Hill liked what he did Tuesday night. Some of Boehner’s close allies think Boehner (R-Ohio) should call up Meadows’ resolution himself to demonstrate his power and squash the rebellion.
“I’m looking forward to a very successful fall”, he said. “It’s the most unpopular vote most of us will ever take”.
Meadows has created an issue that distracts the GOP “from winning in 2016, that focuses us away from the real big issue, and that’s the deterioration of national security, Iran’s bad deal, Hillary Clinton’s problems”, Graham continued. “This is just a distraction”.
This means that Republicans have to treat doing business with President Obama and the Democrats as something bordering on philosophical treason.
