Mr. and Mrs. Elway feel for Oakland fans
The Raiders are going to have to educate their players to stay away from shady characters who might try to buy their soul to influence the outcome of games.
Despite the fact that he voted against the move, Ross still offered a congratulatory message for Raiders owner Mark Davis. We were season ticket holders.
The Raiders will remain in Oakland for the next two seasons, but Davis hesitated to refer to that timeframe as “lame duck” seasons.
“When we got to LA it was like a new franchise – welcomed with open arms”, he said.
“It was a unique situation”. Davis’ father Al Davis moved the team to Los Angeles in 1982 when his demand for luxury boxes at the Coliseum didn’t come to pass.
With the Raiders receiving the necessary votes to grant their move from Oakland to Las Vegas on Monday, the 49ers might be primary beneficiaries as the Bay Area’s only team starting in 2020. That’s actually relatively good news for those with such a desire; if the Bucs had a scheduled road game against the Raiders in 2017 or 2018, then it’s likely their first game in Las Vegas would have fallen in 2025 or 2026. Ellis noted that “attitudes have softened a little bit”, with a greater emphasis on the quality and potential of the market. Problems with the stadium have been ongoing in the last 20-plus years. I’d spent some of my best times as a teenager and adult at the Oakland Coliseum, either taking the Greyhound bus or driving, so I could watch the Athletics and Raiders. That’s a short trip and it’s a fun trip. While some of them may be Raiders fans, there are just as many fans of the Giants, Jets, Steelers, etc.as well.
But in some ways, it won’t be the same.
The expectation for the Raiders is they will play two more seasons in Oakland, with the 2019 season being a major question mark.
And few people love the rivalry more than Owner Pat Bowlen.
The Raiders would become the third National Football League team in the a year ago to move – the Los Angeles Rams relocated from St. Louis and the Chargers announced in January they will leave San Diego for L.A. It’s a three-year rotation for divisions in the same conference and a four-year rotation for divisions in the opposite conference.
But in 1982, then-owner Al Davis moved the club without National Football League approval down the California coast to Los Angeles, and for the next 13 seasons played in the LA Memorial Coliseum, winning another Super Bowl in 1983 behind star running back Marcus Allen.
As Ellis noted, the rivalry “will endure”. “They don’t want us”. We know that some fans will be disappointed and even angry, but we hope that they do not direct that frustration to the players, coaches and staff. “He liked walking across the south end zone there and getting harassed”. Clark County will now officially become home to one of the 32 businesses that shared $7.1 billion in revenue for the 2016 season, according to Bloomberg News.
