Much-Awaited Youtube Re-Launched in Pakistan
In a significant development, Google announced yesterday that it has launched a localized version of its immensely popular video-sharing website YouTube in Pakistan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
According to a statement of Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager Zeffri Yusof, the company has launched YouTube’s localised versions for Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal in the latest update.
It maybe recalled that YouTube is officially banned in Pakistan since September 12, 2012.
Users visiting the YouTube homepage from Sri Lanka will now be able to see videos and playlists that are popular in the country in local languages and domains. Plus each country’s new homepage will highlight and promote local content creators, filmmakers and musicians.
Finally the day we all had been waiting for since Sep’2012, when PTA blocked access to YouTube in Pakistan demanding YouTube / Google to have a localized version with inappropriate content censored as in Saudi Arabia and UAE.
YouTube has started displaying “YouTube PK” as its default logo for users accessing the video-sharing website in Pakistan, Samaa reported Tuesday.
Starting today, a customised version of YouTube in Urdu language and domain will be available in our very own homepages. The country’s apex court ruled the site should be banned until a way is found to block all blasphemous material.
“Pakistanis love YouTube’s diverse music offerings”.
