Much of Minnesota is expected to be hot, severe weather possible
Severe weather arrived the Winona area Monday afternoon with heavy rain – and left nearly as quickly as it arrived.
The storms formed a cluster in the central part of the state around 7 p.m., KSTP Meteorologist Dave Dahl said. Large hail and damaging winds can be expected.
The National Weather Service says the four unconfirmed tornadoes were in Grant, Wilkin and Otter Tail counties.
Legionville Camp president Wayne Gilbertson says almost 140 campers and staff took shelter in their dorms when the storms blew through Sunday evening.
With the heat and high humidity comes an increased risk for heat-related illnesses.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers evacuated campers from the Gull Lake Dam and Recreation Site near Brainerd and closed it indefinitely.
“Could be worse, the house is still standing, cars still here and the dogs are good”, Nisswa resident De’Andre Harris said, cleaning up tree debris on his house and his neighbor’s home.
Minnesota Power was reporting more than 6,000 customers without power early this morning, many in the Brainerd area and more around Nisswa.
