Mueller, Boateng, Martinez, Alonso extend Bayern contracts
Thomas Muller has extended his Bayern Munich contract until 2021, the German club has confirmed.
“I am proud and happy that I have extended my contract”.
Germany defender Jerome Boateng and Spain defensive midfielder Javi Martinez also received new deals, Bayern said on Friday.
But any hope the Dutchman had of persuading the Germany global to move to Manchester has been hit by the news that he has agreed to fresh terms at the Allianz Arena.
“I have the feeling and am convinced that FC Bayern can play very successful football over the next few years”.
“We are delighted to have signed long-term deals with these important players”, club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement.
Bayern’s sporting director, Matthias Sammer, is thrilled with Muller’s new contract and believes the talismanic striker would’ve been impossible to replace. “Thomas, Jerome and Javi know how to win trophies, including the Champions League. They will add quality and stability to our team in the long run”.
The 26-year-old, who was understood to be on the radar of Chelsea and Manchester United, will continue to ply his trade in his homeland.
Boateng said: “I’m pleased and happy at the chance to extend my stay here, I’m looking forward to the years ahead and aim for continuing great success with Bayern. I felt that right from the start”.
The quartet have this season helped Bayern open up a five-point gap at the top of the league after 16 games, reach the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals and breeze into the last 16 of the Champions League. We have a great team.
