Muller: Guardiola still focused on Bayern despite looming Premier League switch
Confirming what was likely the biggest open secret in football this season, Pep Guardiola has said that he plans on taking a job at a Premier League club after his contract at Bayern Munich is finished this spring.
The three-way fight between Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea for Pep Guardiola appears to have become a two-way struggle today, with the Old Trafford club reported to have conceded defeat.
Having reportedly told the club’s top brass that he’s looking for a challenge after spending a few years in one of Europe’s less competitive leagues, the newspaper report that the departing Bayern Munich boss will aim to base his success at the club around securing their first Champions League title before turning his attention to full-blown domination.
“I have several offers, but have not yet committed myself”.
Guardiola, who will turn 45 this month, said Tuesday that the reason he was leaving the German giants at the end of the season was because he wanted to coach in England.
“I haven’t had offers yet, I can’t say anything more for the moment”.
Current MCFC manager Manuel Pellegrini is under contract until spring 2017 but this doesn’t appear to be much of an obstacle.
Pep Guardiola has announced his intention to move to England, intensifying a battle for his services among the Premier League’s elite.
Guardiola recently patched up his close friendship with Messi and wants to continue their success together after winning no fewer than 14 major trophies during their time at the Nou Camp.
“I think this is a flawless decision for the club and I wish Carlo the best”, added Guardiola, whose main target is the Champions League this season. Guardiola also has an exceptional record in continental competition, something that Pellegrini was never really successful in (although to be fair, City came up short a few times against some of the best teams in world in Bayern and Barcelona, Guardiola’s teams). “I want to experience a new city and I want to work in England”, he said.
