Multiple injuries when fans storm court in Ames
A reporter for the Des Moines Register suffered a “significant” broken leg after fans stormed the court following ISU’s one point victory over Iowa Thursday night.
However, all the fun typically goes out the window the moment someone-who’s simply in the area doing their job, no less-reportedly suffers a compound fracture in their leg. There’s a risky side to storming the court and now Iowa State may have to deal with the very real possibility that Peterson takes some sort of legal action.
Despite beating an unranked team, the fans of the fourth-ranked Cyclones made a decision to storm the court after erasing a 20-point, second-half deficit against their rival.
The conference statement says they are sorry to hear about the injury – wish Peterson a speedy recovery – and will have no further comment.
After the game, Peterson issued a single-word tweet to describe what happened.
Peterson, who has worked as a sports writer for the Register for roughly four decades, had surgery Friday.
“As long as there is time on the clock, we always have a chance to win”, McKay said.
Iowa State Coach Steve Prohm told the Des Moines Register: “I hate that Randy got hurt”. “That’s bad. But, my thing, I was trying to go see my wife, to be honest with you”.
“I’m OK with it, ” Peterson said. “I probably should have enjoyed it more, but I was just thanking God I didn’t have to come to this media session my first year and answer questions on why I lost to Iowa”.
But this is still going to rekindle the debate over an increasingly risky college basketball tradition. “This was a great moment, a neat moment”, Prohm said. Those (students) have been camping out here for three days.
In February, fans charged the court at Bramlage Coliseum after Kansas State beat Kansas.
There isn’t a team in the country that’s better at big comebacks than Iowa State.
