Multiple shootings, stabbing at Denver motorbike expo
Dr. Kevin McVaney of Denver Health Medical Center said earlier in the afternoon that six people were admitted to the hospital. Police are now interviewing witnesses and a person of interest, however, it is believed that there was more than one shooter involved.
No arrests have been made but few are being questioned and investigation is ongoing.
He said, however, “There were no Denver police officers involved”. Four people were shot, one fatally, in what White called “an exchange of gunfire” involving multiple shooters. Heavily-armed Denver Police officers were seen outside the entrances.
Police in Denver responded to reports of multiple shootings and a stabbing at the Colorado Motorcycle Expo.
Denver police are confirming that one person is dead, while several others are wounded in a shooting/stabbing at the Denver Coliseum. Robert White, Chief of the Denver Police Department stated that most of those involved in the deadly altercation were members of motorcycle clubs. The incident happened just before 1 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET).
The expo, which organisers billed as one of the largest motorcycle events in the country, features a bike swap, on-site tattooing and piercing, and a wet T-shirt contest.
Three people were in critical condition at area hospitals, while the others had less serious injuries.
A witness who requested anonymity out of fear of retaliation told the Denver Post newspaper that the fight was started by rival biker gangs. He said he didn’t hear any arguments before the shooting and doesn’t know what prompted it. The Colorado Motorcycle Expo is being held this weekend at the complex.
Denver Health was placed on lockdown as a precaution, but they said that staff and patients were safe.
