Mumford & Sons reveal boy band origin story for Jimmy Kimmel
Quick Take: Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, popular folk/rock/bluegrass band Mumford & Sons reminisced on their start in the music industry – back when they were just a five-member boy band called “Mumtown“. The clip tells the story of the mock band’s hits – “Package 4-U” and “OMGUHOT” – as well as their break up.
“We called him “mum” because he wasn’t allowed to sing”, says Marcus.
With songs like “Girl, I’m Saying Girl, Girl” and “O.M.G.U.H.O.T.” This alternate history also presented Jimmy Kimmel (known simply as “Mum”) as a vocal-free fifth member.
But it all came crumbling down with “I Am My Heart”, where Kimmel wrote lyrics as though hearts have little legs.
As is the case with many musical groups, especially boy bands, the guys had a falling out with one of its own. Mumtown peaked in the late “90s”.
