Murder-carjacking suspect captured in Kansas
Kansas Bureau of Investigation has arrived to process the crime scene as the stolen vehicle remains upside down in the ditch surrounded by charred grass.
Kansas Highway Patrol troopers arrested a suspect wanted in a double homicide in Mississippi Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported, the release said.
The couple, however, was able to get away from Deaton, but only after Deaton shot the fleeing man.
By Wednesday morning, Deaton was leading police on a auto chase through Pratt City, Kansas, Duke said.
MS authorities are charging a fugitive arrested Wednesday in Kansas with a second murder.
He is also suspected to be the man who shot a jogger in the thigh 5am Friday morning.
Robinson was found strangled Friday afternoon, but authorities believe it happened sometime Wednesday or early Thursday.
Officials say Monday February 26, he was spotted in Tulsa, Oklahoma where a family member lives. Deaton did not stop and sped eastbound down the highway.
Deaton was thought to be in Tulsa after the murders in MS last week.
Deaton is also accused of robbing a convenience store and shooting the clerk in Pratt, Kansas.
Murder suspect Alex Deaton was captured in Kansas on Wednesday. During the carjacking Tuesday in New Mexico, Deaton shot a man in the buttocks, and a woman was grazed by a bullet as the couple struggled to escape, Bailey said. The couple escaped, Deaton returned to the couple’s vehicle at original kidnapping site and headed north on Interstate 25 near Algodones. Police have not released the name of the jogger and her condition is unknown.
One of the city’s trauma hospitals referred questions to law enforcement and the other one told The Associated Press it could provide no information without the clerk’s name.
When arriving on the scene it was eerie to say the least.
Deaton supposedly came out of a wooded area and approached a couple in a 2001 Honda sedan that was parked in the parking lot of La Luz Trail Head in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The national manhunt for a murder suspect out of MS now continues in New Mexico.
The vehicle crashed and caught on fire and Deaton was taken into custody without incident.
In the days leading up to her death, Robinson allegedly told friends she didn’t want Deaton to move in with him unless they were going to get married, Mississippi News Now reports.
