Murder investigation launched after woman dies in Sligo
One pal, who did not want to be named, added she could not believe her friend had been killed in such a violent way.
Garda teams responded to a call at around 10.30am and went to the house where they found a man in his early 30s carrying a knife. They shot him with a stun gun.
A man is due in court this morning, charged in relation to the investigation into the murder of a woman in Sligo yesterday.
She was transported to hospital for further medical attention before she was pronounced dead at 11am.
This man was tasered by members of the Regional Support Unit in Sligo.
During the brief court hearing Sergeant Patrick Harney told the court that he arrested the defendant at 12.05am today at Sligo Garda station for the offence of murder. Professor Marie Cassidy, the state pathologist, last night performed an autopsy on the woman’s remains. It is understood Ms McGuinness worked in a local supermarket and had studied early childhood education at Ballinode College.
He described the victim as “a lovely woman, just like a model”. “Until we meet again, rest in peace”.
