Murder trial to begin in Kansas Jewish site shootings
Miller has admitted that he gunned down a woman, man and teenager outside of two Jewish centers in Overland Park, Kansas. He has chronic emphysema and has said he doesn’t think he has long to live, and he has attended hearings since his arrest using a wheelchair equipped with an oxygen tank.
Frazier Glenn Miller Jr., a 74-year-old avowed white supremacist, has publicly acknowledged firing the shots that killed 69-year-old William Corporon; his 14-year-old grandson, Reat Griffin Underwood; and 53-year-old Terri LaManno on April 13, 2014, in Johnson County, Kansas.
Frazier Glenn Cross, 74, is a former senior member of the Ku Klux Klan who will represent himself during his state trial in Olathe, Kansas.
Those not dismissed for “hardship” reasons on Monday will return Tuesday to begin answering additional questions, including their opinions about the death penalty. All three of the victims were Christian. Jury selection is expected to last a week.
Cross called the Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe “Howdy Doody” at one point and asked if he could switch seats so he could sit closer to the jury. The judge has warned him that he does this during the trial, he will be removed from the courtroom, backup lawyers will take over and the trial will go on.
“Your objection is noted for the record, Mr. Miller, and it is overruled”, Judge Ryan replied.
