Murry’s announces another large recall of Bell & Evans chicken
Stop & Shop alerted customers on Thursday to a voluntary recall of a gluten free chicken nugget.
Approximately 20,000 pounds of Fredricksburg-based Bell & Evans chicken, packaged by the Lebanon Murry’s, Inc., became the subject of a Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recall after the discovery of Staphylococcal enterotoxin, according to a press release by FSIS.
Murry’s, Inc., the company that makes Bell & Evans, has recalled its Gluten Free Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets.
The recalled products have an establishment number of “P-516” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were distributed nationwide. The illness is usually mild, and symptoms can include nausea, vomiting diarrhea, and stomach cramps. The recalled product is marked as best by 03/25/2016 and has a UPC of 738985277291.
The problem was discovered by the Colorado Department of Agriculture during a routine retail surveillance and sampling program, the news release said.
“Food safety is a core value for Murry’s”.
Staphylococcal food poisoning is referred to as a gastrointestinal illness that is caused when someone consumes food that has been contaminated with toxin producing Staphylococcal aureus. Thoroughly cooking the product does not prevent the illness, as heat doesn’t destroy the toxin.
Customers who have purchased these products should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant/Martin’s for a full refund.
