Music fans throng to Isle of Wight Festival
The Who are set to headline tonight, while Queen and Adam Lambert will end the festivities tomorrow night.
Lambert said: “This song is dedicated to those who lost their lives in Orlando, Florida, and anyone who has been a victim of senseless violence or hatred”.
Other hits included Killer Queen, Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free, and Under Pressure, the song Queen jointly created with David Bowie.
Adam admitted he is wary that Queen fans would not want to hear new music under the band’s name as he accepts he can not replace late great frontman Freddie Mercury – who passed away in November 1991 at the age of 45.
Crowds packed into the main stage arena to see the band perform foot stomping hits including “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “We Will Rock You” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” – which celebrated its 40th anniversary a year ago. “This is still one of the biggest honours in my life, there will always be, for all time, one Freddie”.
Actors Frank Langella and Lin-Manuel Miranda honoured Orlando victims during acceptance speeches at the Tony Awards Sunday night, while Grateful Dead star Bob Weir referenced the tragedy when he collected the Les Paul Spirit Award in Tennessee.
David Bowie’s last ever United Kingdom concert was remembered at the Isle Of Wight festival during the weekend.
Channel 5’s popular pre-school strand Milkshake will be taking to the stage at the upcoming Isle of Wight Festival 2016.
Guitarist Barry McKenna said: “We would love to come back to the Isle of Wight festival it’s really cool and we are fortunate to be here”.
Mike, originally from Portsmouth, Hampshire, performing as Mike and the Mechanics, played several Genesis tracks including I Can’t Dance and Land Of Confusion.
Welsh headliners Stereophonics will take to the main stage tonight at 8:50pm, before electronic outfit Faithless appear at 10:40pm.
