Music Review Coldplay has a dance party on new album
Unfortunately, Coldplay’s new release “A Head Full of Dreams” was no match for the star as the album notched up 236,000 – 118,000 copies less than Adele.
But sadly for the British rockers, the record-breaking, glass ceiling-smashing Adele has kept them off the top spot with her album 25 remaining at number one for the third straight week.
25 managed to shift another 354,000 copies over the last seven days, giving Adele the highest third week sales for a chart-topping album since Take That’s The Circus, which sold 382,000 copies for its third week at number one in 2008.
Coldplay will stream their latest album, A Head Full of Dreams, one week after its official release.
The two are set to meet at Saturday’s The X Factor as Simon Cowell worked his charm and secured both as performers for the big final.
He played a grand piano at the end of his first Late Late Show in March.
Elsewhere, Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream” is at Number 3 with 105,000 combined sales, whilst Justin Bieber’s “Purpose” is at 4, and Jess Glynn’s “I Cry When I Laugh” holds strong at number 5.
The highest new entry was Sigala’s Sweet Lovin’ at three.
25, her first studio album in almost five years, is now officially the biggest United Kingdom album of the year after becoming the fastest to sell a million copies in history.
Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You climbed to 13, The Pogues ft Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale Of New York was at 20 and Wham’s Last Christmas at 27.
The track, which features vocals from Bryn Christopher, follows Easy Love, which hit Number 1 back in September.
