Muslim database comments: Hillary, Republican rivals blast Trump
Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump sought to walk back his support for a database of Muslims living in the US after receiving criticism from religious groups as well as his fellow candidates.
When asked in that interview if he would consider registering Muslims in a database or giving them a special form of identification, Trump said: “We’re going to have to – we’re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely”.
Trump took to Twitter Friday. afternoon to allege he “didn’t suggest a database-a reporter did”. “There should be a lot of systems”. Keep in mind that Trump said yesterday that he’d implement national security measures that were “frankly unthinkable a year ago”.
On Thursday, the Democratic National Committee sent an email to reporters with a response to Trump from DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. “And, in the United States, there is no place for this kind of divisive, hateful rhetoric”. “Absolutely”, he said when asked about the idea. You’re talking about closing mosques.
Trump responds “it would be just good management”. It’s not a question of toughness. Democrats blocked Cruz’s bill Thursday. “The First Amendment protects religious liberty, and I’ve spent the past several decades defending the religious liberty of every American”. “Vladmir Putin is not a popular personality in this country”, she said of the Russian leader.
“The idea that someone would have to register with the federal government due to their religion strikes against all that we have believed in our nation’s history”, he said in a statement.
“That’s not who we are”. “You don’t want to have all Muslims against you”, he said.
“Mightier than the government of the United States are the people of the United States”, Taufique said, citing an Indian activist whom he admires.
While a few of his rivals have been chastised by President Barack Obama for suggesting that Christian Syrian refugees be given preference over Muslims, Trump has gone further in his rhetoric, advocating new restrictions on civil liberties and enhanced surveillance activities, including inside mosques. “They have to be”, he said about the forced registration.
“My father was in World War II, and he fought to preserve America against what the Nazis were doing”, Mr Moline said. And a Texas politician likened refugees to rattlesnakes. The Roanoke mayor has since apologized.
“By mainstreaming Islamophobic and unconstitutional policies, Donald Trump and Ben Carson are contributing to an already toxic environment that may be hard to correct once their political ambitions have been satisfied”, CAIR’s Robert McCaw said in a statement.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Friday voiced concern over recent comments made by the three top Republican presidential candidates about Muslim refugees in the aftermath of the deadly terror attacks in Paris. Rubio edges Cruz in the poll as 47 percent of the voters are saying that he will be a better president compared to Cruz, who only got 28 percent.
“He has not confirmed a database”, radio host Rush Limbaugh said Friday.
I’m not sure whether or not Trump wants a mandatory Muslim registry, and I certainly wouldn’t put it past him. “But right now we have to have a border, we have to have strength, we have to have a wall”. “Even their journalistic malpractice is not going to hurt Trump”.
“Should there be a database system that tracks Muslims here in this country?” the NBC reporter asks.
Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders also criticised Trump’s comments.
