Muslim Students Celebrate a First With Eid School Holiday

On this day Muslims sacrifice a goat or Bakr (Urdu) to commemorate the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim, who willingly agreed to kill his son at the behest of God.

During the 10 days leading up to Eid, Muslims around the world will spend more time reading scripture, in prayer, fasting and doing good deeds for people near and far. They should eat one third of the meat, share one-third with friends and neighbors and then donate one-third to people in need. Those who can’t afford it buy meat from a Halal butcher to distribute.

In Muslim countries, Eid al-Azha is a public holiday that involves animal sacrifice, prayers and family gatherings.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos recommended that the observance of Eid’l Adha in the Philippines be on September 25, based on the Islamic calendar and the declaration of Saudi Arabia’s highest religious authority.

Also known as the feast of sacrifice, Eid al-Adha is one of Islam’s most important religious days.

Among others, Dubai American Academy, Star global and Al Twar had all initially said they would be closed on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – but majority have now said they will stay open on Tuesday.

The main Eid congregation in Dhaka was held on Friday morning at the national Eidgah (ground specified for saying Eid prayers) where Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid and ministers, lawmakers and elite of society said their prayers.

Hashem also says the history of Hajj dates back over 1500 years and despite what has happened in Mecca, it will not deter Muslims from partaking in the pilgrimage because it is pivotal to their Muslim faith.
