MWC 2017: HMD Global relaunches Nokia 3310 at Euro 49
The Nokia 3310 has made a comeback, 17 years after its first launch.
For the new 2017 edition, Nokia and HMD modernized its design as well as hardware.
All four devices are aluminium, and each is shaped from an individual block of metal. The Nokia 3 will be a budget smartphone and it will be priced at 139 Euros.
“Nokia phones stir real emotions; people know them for their handsome design and craftsmanship, together with a built-to-last quality that you can rely on”, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global, said in a press release. Now the 3310 is making a nostalgic return in the form of a more modern variant, thanks to Nokia-branded phone maker HMD.
The new version will bring back its predecessor’s popular “Snake” game and distinctive ringtones, said Arto Nummela, the head of Finnish start-up HMD Global which will produce the phone under a licensing agreement with Nokia.
“The Nokia brand has over 150 years of heritage giving it an authentic, differentiating experience which we are proud to introduce to a new generation of fans”.
It shared the news at an event Sunday ahead of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, where more than 100,000 people are expected to attend.
The updated 3310 handset will have an even larger battery life than the original phone. And yes, the classic Nokia ringtone and Snake game are on the phone as well.
Finally, we’ve got the Nokia 6.
Giving up on Windows, Nokia also has taken on other rival companies with its simple idea in Android.
The company also announced the Nokia 3 and Nokia 5, with 5-inch and 5.2-inch displays respectively, and the global availability of the Nokia 6, which was previously revealed exclusively for sale in China last month. The basic specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, 3GB RAM, 5.5-inch display (1920 x 1080), 32GB of storage and a microSD slot as well. That’s partly because Nokia is taking advantage of the fact that users are getting tied a bit too much to their devices, so much so, that they sometimes consider using a dumb feature phone as a means of detoxing. The smartphone looks a little premium as well, worth its price.
