MWC 2017: Nokia relaunces classic 3310 for under Rs 4000
The relaunch of the device was the most eye-catching reveal at the event, as HMD Global also unveiled three new Android phones aimed at emerging markets – the Nokia 6, 5 and 3.
Nokia is partnering with Finnish manufacturing company HMD Global to release a new range of phones. The phone will cost €49 (£42) at launch.
Nokia 5, on the other hand, has 2GB RAM and the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor that the Nokia 6 sports. It wasn’t smart, but it was virtually indestructible and the battery lasted for ever – and now it’s back.
Having once been the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer, Nokia has since slipped behind all its major rivals and was sold off by previous buyers Microsoft past year.
The metal-clad Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 sport 5.2in FHD and 5in HD displays, respectively, and will be made available for €189 (around £160) and €139 (around £120), respectively.
Another smartphone that is expected to be announced at MWC is the Nokia 8.
According to Chinese site Vtech, the new Nokia 3310 will feature a colour screen, rather than the monochrome 84 x 84 display of old.
What’s best is, the colours run through the phone material and hence it looks better for longer. The venerable Nokia 3310 has been reborn in the modern age and yes, it comes with Snake! The phone even has a 2 MP rear camera.
The battery is still the big draw card here, and though it might not match the 3310 of old, Nokia has promised 22 hours of talk time.
One of the many things that the iconic Nokia 3310 is known for is its fun games – chief of all, Snake II.
The original Nokia 3310 did not sport a headphone jack. It also comes with 2G, FM Radio and Bluetooth 3.0 capabilities with Nokia’s SLAM technology.
In 2017, Nokia sold its handset business to Microsoft for $7 Billion and a year ago, HMD bought the brand Nokia from Microsoft.
