Myers’ chip shot helps Jaguars beat Dolphins 23-20
They thought that Blake Bortles had made no progress over the off-season and that the team should start looking for an alternative future plan.
Allen Robinson, wide receiver.
“From our point of view, we expected this outcome, ” Bortles said.
If the Jags QB Blake Bortles had a bad game day against the Panthers, then he may struggle more against the Dolphins’ defense.
Rookie Jason Myers kicked a 28-yard field goal with 40 seconds remaining and the Jacksonville Jaguars held on to beat the Miami Dolphins 23-20 on Sunday. It’s a scary sign for the Dolphins if Suh, who has an insane amount of money invested in him, has lost respect for coaches’ play-calling after just two games. Not much offense, lackluster drives and pretty good defense that couldn’t get off the field on third down. “I take full responsibilities for my actions, on to the next week”.
Three running plays netted 9 yards, which brought on Myers, who had missed a 42-yard field goal last week against Carolina. It was the first game in Bortles career that he was not sacked. On the field is where he sometimes slips into a different kind of character, and a dozen camera angles will always look to find that character’s flaws. Ryan Tannehill pushed the team to win with one touchdown and the completion of 22 passes out of the 34 for 226 yards.
Q: Why has the defense had trouble coming out strong in the first half? “It was early in the game and we really wanted to start fast so I just had an opportunity to make a play and I was able to do that”, he added. It was felt there was too much complexity in the scheme past year, from moving parts just before the snap to gap assignments and blitz packages. But two games into the season, Lewis and Jaguars tight ends are still without a catch. While the last one was no more than a chip shot, it was particularly important. The Jaguars are trying to avoid a fourth consecutive 0-2 start.
Miami had one final chance, but with no timeouts and lots of ground to cover, the Dolphins didn’t even mount a threat. Probably his most important play of the game was a pressure up the middle, forcing Ryan Tannehill to throw it out of bounds on third down. “There were plenty of plays we left on the field”. They did a good job. After limping past 2014 NFC East cellar-dwelling Washington in the season opener, Miami will face a Jaguars team that finished 3-13 last season before beginning a stretch of four AFC East showdowns in its next six contests. Ndamukong Suh had a convincingly stunning game, but fans are expecting him and the rest of the defensive line to return to their best as they were in the preseason.
MIAMI’S MISCUES: Miami’s Lamar Miller ran 10 times for 14 yards before leaving with a sprained ankle. The Jaguars had more first downs (8) than the Dolphins had plays (7) in the first quarter. Brent Grimes picked off a pass, as did Brice McCain. The Jaguars quickly lined up for a field goal with Myers converting from 58 yards out for a 20-13 halftime margin.
Jacksonville closed out the game in similar fashion.
