N Srinivasan in Nagpur; to meet Sharad Pawar
The hunt for Jagmohan Dalmiya’s successor is already seeing some interesting twists and turns. If the candidate gets a proposer and is backed by the other five units, he would sail through.
He has come reportedly to discuss the strategy for electing the new BCCI chief, sources from Vidharbha Cricket Association said.
However, Pawar could face difficulty in getting a proposer from East Zone, with CAB and National Cricket Club strongly opposed to him. East zone units have gone a step ahead and might bring in Amitabh Chaudhary of Jharkhand who is doing joint secretary for the state.
As for Pawar, the former ICC and BCCI supremo is testing waters now and would only offer his candidature if he is sure of atleast 16 votes for which he would need government support. Informal meetings were being conducted by various Cricket Associations to decide the next President of BCCI. At this point of time, they fell that Amitabh Chaudhary who had been an IPS officer and managed Jharkhand State Cricket Association fits the bill perfectly.
Current IPL chairman Shukla had wanted to fight the BCCI presidency earlier this year, but was forced to settle for the vice president’s post later on. Our contention is till 2017, it should be someone from the East Zone.
