Nadella, Google’s executive chairman congratulate Pichai
“Since joining Google in 2004, Sundar has led a number of key consumer products which are now used by hundreds of millions of people and, prior to his current role, served as Google’s SVP of Android, Chrome and Apps”, the company said in the filing in which it also noted that Pichai received a B.Tech from the IIT-Kharagpur, a MS from Stanford University, and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.
Pichai, 43, was named CEO of a newly organised Google, becoming only the third chief executive of the company after Schmidt and cofounder Larry Page. Alphabet will report its results under this new structure commencing with the fourth-quarter earnings release, typically posted in January. Now-former CEO Larry Page apparently agrees: as part of a big shake-up, Page announced today that he is now the CEO of “Alphabet“, a brand-new company of which Google is just one part.
While the company will still use the Google name for those core services, Page said the new structure will provide more independence for divisions like Nest, which makes Internet-connected home appliances, and Calico, which is conducting cutting-edge health research.
The company said the new arrangement will take effect “later this year”.
Okay! So Alphabet implies control over all communication and the future of business growth.
Google’s new chief financial officer, Ruth Porat, will hold the same title for both Google and Alphabet. Google’s other co-founder, Sergey Brin, will be president of the new holding company. The cash cow is still the Google search engine and its advertising.
Page explained that “our model is to have a strong CEO who runs each business, with Sergey and me in service to them as needed”. As long as the Google ads keep on delivering this is not a problem and Sundai Pichai needs to make sure that this is the case in the coming years. This essentially means that Google will run Internet products like Google Maps, YouTube, Chrome, and Android. Sundar has been saying the things I would have said (and sometimes better!) for quite some time now, and I’ve been tremendously enjoying our work together. Sergey and I have been super excited about his progress and dedication to the company. The registrations include computer games, clothing labels, furniture, toys, all manner of children’s books, as well as Alphabet Vodka and the Alphabet City Brewing Co in New York City. Once the reorganization is complete, the company says its two existing classes of publicly traded stock will continue to trade on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbols “GOOG” and “GOOGL”.
