NAFTA a sore spot for some Democrats on Clinton in MI

Following up at an Oversight hearing on Thursday, Comey said Clinton didn’t lie to the FBI, and the agency didn’t consider her congressional testimony under oath last fall during its email investigation because it would need a referral from Congress to do so. John McCain at the same point in the 2008 campaign, said Michael Podhorzer, political director with the American Federation of Labor.
“It’s just not a reasonable movement”, she says of Trump’s populist pitch. The FBI did not believe that Clinton’s lawyers intentionally deleted or sought to hide the additional work-related emails that surfaced as part of the investigation. Non-work messages, which she said covered personal correspondence on matters such as yoga classes and her daughter’s wedding, were deleted by her staff. More than one in four said it didn’t make any difference to them. To supporters it was an honest mistake that other cabinet officials have made and for which Clinton is being unfairly prosecuted.
Some Democrats will grumble privately – they already are – about Comey’s commentary, even as they publicly celebrate the announcement that Clinton is effectively in the clear.
“She has now told so many lies on so many topics on so many different occasions that even if she were playing with a full deck, she would have trouble pulling out the right card”. It has tried to reach them by hammering Trump as “dangerous” and “temperamentally unfit” for the job, while her initial general election advertising blitz focuses on her achievements in public life.
House and Senate Republicans will pursue Clinton on two fronts over the email scandal that has amplified their criticism of her as untrustworthy just as she prepares to accept her party’s nomination for president the week after next in Philadelphia. That, she argues, is an opportunity for the likely Republican nominee. Her email was less secure than Gmail.
Six in 10 voters say the outcome will have no impact on their vote this November, even as those who do largely say it discourages them from backing the presumptive Democratic nominee.
She said she did this for convenience.
Still, Republicans may use the opportunity to find ways to go after Clinton when they return, when she’ll be on the cusp of the election.
While Clinton has been critical about racial bias in the application of capital punishment, she has come short of saying it should be done away with. Ron Levine, a former prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Philadelphia who now represents clients in white-collar prosecutions, said they also look at the scope of the offense and resulting damage, and whether there’s evidence the target knew that he or she was doing something wrong.
But the reliably Democratic state is costing her campaign nonetheless.
But Jill Goldmann Weinshel, 51, a stay-at-home mom from Mequon, Wis., wonders whether gender has been a factor in the attacks on Clinton. “I’m not sure he can actually be their savior”.
Stein, a MA physician, offers herself as the logical choice for supporters of Bernie Sanders, who shares her progressive views on many issues – single-payer health insurance, green energy, raising taxes, campaign finance regulation, military intervention overseas and more. She was secretary of state at the time of these alleged infractions. Pretty straightforward: Is Barack Obama collaborating with deadly terrorists? They see Clinton’s ability to slither through controversies and legal issues unscathed as a huge resume enhancer. More than a third said it wouldn’t make a difference. They are Gary Johnson, nominated in June by the Libertarian Party, and Jill Stein, who is expected to be chosen at the Green Party national convention next month.
Later, aides said things on Clinton’s behalf that turned out not to be true, including that each of more than 30,000 emails her lawyers turned over in 2014 had been read individually. “We like a strong woman in the home, but how about a strong woman in the community?”
