Najib and Modi launch Torana Gate of friendship
Malaysia and India will exchange lessons on delivering and monitoring public sector projects.
Prime Minister Modi commended Najib Razak for his leadership in combating extremism and radicalisation and in highlighting the real values of Islam.
Modi said, “We will work with renewed vigour to raise momentum of our partnership”.
“The inauguration of the Torana gate shows India-Malaysia ties are not only economical but also cultural”.
Mr. Modi said India deeply valued its relations with Malaysia and was grateful for Mr. Najib’s stewardship that has kept the relationship on a steady course of progress.
According to Mr Modi, the two nations agreed to upgrade their joint exercises and set up the SU-30 forum to strengthen collaboration in “training and defence equipment”.
Leaders of both nations signed a plaque before they left signifying the enduring friendship between India and Malaysia.
Malaysia and India also agreed to establish a mechanism for sharing of information, including for Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster relief (HADR) and white shipping.
Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Anil Wadhwa, had said earlier that the focus of the visit will be on 5 “S planks” which are – scale up trade and investment, speed up connectivity, smart cities, skill development and the State focus.
“Our agreements on cyber security are very important”.
Modi also said that he will pay special attention to the people and is looking forward to having a stronger cultural ties.
He said that many tourists visit Kuala Lumpur, commonly referred as Little India, and the Torana Gate will become one of the major attractions for tourists. “We intend to exploit the full potential of our bilateral agreements and the Indian-ASEAN Agreements”.
He said the recent spate of attacks in different countries, apart from the “ceaseless terrorist attempts against India and Afghanistan”, were a reminder of the global nature of this threat.
“The Torana Gate marks another high point in the long-standing history of good relations between Malaysia and India”. Both also acknowledged the contributions of the large Indian community in Malaysia, which has helped to foster and develop current and future linkages.
