Najib: Show the spirit of the tiger against Liverpool
The English Premier League side strolled to a 7-0 win over the Malaysian Super League side at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Thursday.
In what was initially meant to be an open training session in front of 5,000 supporters, manager Brendan Rodgers made an impromptu request for it to become a match of two 30-minute periods. The excited local fans had a great time and were singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” throughout the match.
Sharing his views is skipper Jordan Henderson who praised the excellent pitch condition at the venue. “The fans support (here) is incredible and I hope more fans will come to watch the game, tomorrow”, he said.
The Reds have already registered wins over the Thai All Stars, Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United on their travels, and they are unlikely to be stretched by a severely weakened home side in Kuala Lumpur.
Liverpool last faced a Malaysia XI back in 2011, with Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani putting in an inpsired performance and goals from Charlie Adam, David N’Gog, Maxi Rodriguez and Dirk Kuyt sealing a 6-3 victory.
Following the game the Reds will return to Melwood to continue their pre-season preparations, before a friendly clash against HJK Helsinki on Saturday, 1st August.
