Napoli’s big night sparks Indians to 14-4 rout of Angels
Then, Lindor went from first base to home when Napoli smashed a double to deep center field, a hit that drove Angels starter Jhoulys Chacin from the game.
Cleveland Indians designated hitter Carlos Santana is out of the lineup against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, a day after suffering a contusion on the right side of his head when he was hit by a foul ball in the dugout.
Santana was sitting in the dugout at the time. “He’s got length in him, so we’ll use that and see how it goes”, Scioscia said. Indians’ manager Terry Francona said “By the time he left he was really rallying”. The Angels are 3-7 in their last 10 games but they have dominated the AL Central of late as they are 7-1 in their last eight games and will look to add to that trend in what will need to be one of their better games of the season. If there are any concussion symptoms, you have to err on the side of caution.
Santana hit one of the three home runs the Indians belted in their 14-4 rout of the Angels on Thursday. Carrasco is coming off a fine effort in his last start, despite being the losing pitcher in a 3-2 loss to the Yankees on August 7.
Kluber (12-8) gave up three runs on four hits in six innings to get the win.
Friday will be Carrasco’s fourth career start and eighth career appearance against the Angels. Skaggs was taken deep on two occasions and issued three walks to match the sum total of his previous two trips to the mound. Chacin will carry a 5.84 ERA and 1.53 WHIP into Tuesday’s start against the Mariners. In his last start, August 6 at Seattle, Skaggs gave up four runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The loss was the Angels’ seventh straight and equaled their longest losing streak since April 30-May 6, 2010.
It was the bottom of the sixth inning, the outcome long since decided, and Angels Manager Mike Scioscia hewed to it with his decision to remove his top players from the field. “We haven’t been able to blend the two together”.
Elsewhere, the Baltimore Orioles knocked off the Oakland Athletics 9-6 and the Chicago Cubs needed 11 innings to beat the St Louis Cardinals 4-3.
“He’s tougher on us than anybody”, Scioscia said. “It begins with the starting pitching”.
