Narendra Modi Back To India After 6 Nation Tour Of Russian Federation
Dushanbe (Tajikistan): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said combating terrorism is an important area of cooperation between India and Tajikistan which are located in the proximity of the main source of terrorism. Eager to tap energy reserves and gain strategic reach, Mr Modi urged each Central Asian nations to join the Corridor for accessing a “vast and dynamic market” in India. “‘Getting a foreign airbase, particularly in Central Asia, is a significant development“. So, the impact of what happens in Afghanistan concerns this area, concerns India, officials said.
There is need to develop more transport corridors that can connect India to the Central Asia region and provide commercial and shipping access to India’s warm water ports for these land-locked nations.
In his media statement after holding talks with Rahmon at the Qasr-e-Millat (Palace of Nations), Modi said both countries are bound by deep historical, cultural and civilisational links.
He also thanked President Rahmon and Tajikistan for their support in making the worldwide Day of Yoga on June 21 a huge global success.
On Sunday in Kyrgyzstan, Modi said both countries had a “shared interest in combating extremism and terrorism that has become a threat without borders”.
In another tweet, he added, “Strong ties between India & Central Asia are important for the future that we seek for our countries & our region”.
He interacted with Indian and Krygyz soldiers and both sides also agreed to conduct joint military exercises, exchange of military instructors and observers.
His visit to the country was the first by an Indian Prime Minister after PV Narasimha Rao’s visit in 1995.
In Turkmenistan on Saturday, Modi pushed for the early realisation of a gas pipeline starting from Turkmenistan and running through Afghanistan and Pakistan onwards to India (TAPI) as well as for connectivity in between India and Turkmenistan. “But, we sometimes save the special one for the last”.
In Kazakhstan, Prime Minister Modi met President Nazarbayev and Prime Minister Karim Massimov, whom he met briefly in Singapore in March this year. “We will work together to take economic ties to a new level”.
