Narendra Modi optimistic about Monsoon session, says good decisions will be
“Yes, Government has more responsibility in enabling normal functioning of Parliament but so does all of you”.
Parliament will reconvene to chaos, as there has been no real effort to resolve the logjam between the treasury and Opposition benches since the last session. During the last session, it was decided that some issues would be addressed during the next session. Of all the forums available for expression of ones views, Parliament is the best. Let there be good debates and suggestions. “We should move forward on land bill”, he said. “(The) Parliament will run but government must allow discussion”, JD(U) President Sharad Yadav said when asked about the Congress’ stand.
Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, said the running of the Parliament and passage of important bills during the monsoon session will be “more easy” if the BJP takes action against these leaders while it will also help BJP in “correcting” its image which has taken a hit due to the scams.
“The government will be exposed only if there’s a debate”, a Janata Dal United parliamentarian said.
The Minister gave details of the Bills being proposed by the Government for introduction as well as for consideration and passing during thesession. But the BJP has taken these as a referendum of sorts with its leader Sushil Modi pointing out that these reflect the mood and the trend.
Earlier in the day, BJP chief Amit Shah held strategy meetings with various party colleagues, including union ministers Arun Jaitley, Swaraj, Smriti Irani, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Piyush Goyal as well as party spokespersons during which Raje, the chief minister of Rajasthan, was also present.
“Nobody can dictate to the government. No one has done anything illegal or immoral”.
“We are ready to discuss all issues”.
The parties wanted the House to function, sources said.
In other developments, the BJP demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the payment of $976,630 in bribes allegedly to a former minister and officials in Goa by the New Jersey-based consultancy firm Louis Berger.
While a number of parties felt a washout of the Parliament is not a solution but the history suggests a washout is inevitable. “The Samajwadi Party will continue to oppose it”, its leader Ram Gopal Yadav said of the Land Bill. “Parliament is sovereign”, he said.
The Opposition is attempting to forge unity on the floor of the House to corner the government on key issues including the Vyapam scam, Lalit Modi controversy and the Socio Economic and Caste Census.
The ruling party in Uttar Pradesh fears that if it demands the heads of Vasundhara and Chouhan, the BJP could hit back and target Akhilesh Yadav.
The stage appears set for fireworks in Parliament when it convenes for the Monsoon Session as both the government and the opposition have hardened their positions on issues like resignations of ministers, Land Bill, among others. In a unusual turn of events, Prime Minister Narendra Modi who rode to power on the anti-corruption platform a year ago will have to answer the charges levelled by opposition parties against some of his own Cabinet and party colleagues in the current session.
The BJP is not particularly keen to negotiate with the Congress for the smooth functioning of the monsoon session.
