NASCAR Chase 2015 at Homestead
Gordon is the only driver to win his way in.
Jeff Gordon will have a chance to score a walk off championship in the final race of his 23-year career.
As he did, Gordon knocked defending Sprint Cup series champion and Sunday’s favorite, Kevin Harvick, out of the qualifying in the second round. The Ford EcoBoost 400 was the final race for the two-car Michael Waltrip Racing team…. “With the multitude of options from both NASCAR and NBC, fans can watch from numerous viewpoints at the same time, giving them a front-row seat to what will certainly be an action-packed championship race”.
Chris Buescher never made a major mistake, never got rattled and never even tried to contend for a victory.
In the first event in the Eliminator Round at Martinsville, Gordon scored his first win since 2014, thanks in part to the wreck involving Joey Logano and Matt Kenseth. “True story: I wore a Jeff Gordon hat to school every day for all of Grade 6”.
Looking to play spoiler today is Logano, who was probably the best driver in the Chase but failed to advance out of the third round of NASCAR’s playoffs. “We may have been the last guy moving on each time, but it doesn’t matter if you’re first or last”.
“We keep our lives really normal, ” Pollex said as Truex grinned proudly from the chair next to her. “My doctor will say, ‘I know you, you just had chemotherapy but you’re going to the race track and going to talk to everyone.’ And I just say, ‘of course I am'”.
He’s trying to remember all the details of his celebratory day, including a visit from racing legend Mario Andretti, three-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton and sports-car ace Scott Pruett. “But you have to put yourself into position to win”. “It only matters in the last round that you’re the No. 1 guy”. Each will visit Krista Voda, Kyle Petty andDale Jarrett on the Countdown to Green pre-race set to discuss their expectations, nerves and final thoughts heading into the Championship race. Petty gave each driver in that race a “Petty blue” money clip. “One is I have always been a big Jeff Gordon fan”.
Steve O’Donnell, vice president of operations, said NASCAR wants to run the finale to the checkered flag. “More than the wins, the friendship means the most to me”. “I didn’t realize how much more grip was going to be out there compared to practice, and I just wasn’t aggressive enough”. He would, however, still have to satisfy the other requirements of winning at least one race and finishing inside the top 30 in the points standings. “But in this sport we all know there are a lot of things that can happen”. Elway, the general manager and executive vice president of football operations for the Denver Broncos, wished Truex luck. So were team owner Rick Hendrick and his wife, Linda, as well as former crew chief Ray Evernham, Hamilton and Andretti.
Rain is threatening the start of NASCAR’s season finale.
The track is dry for now, but dark clouds loom and forecasts call for afternoon thundershowers.
Buescher was the last driver on the lead lap and finished 15.9 seconds behind race victor Kyle Larson.
